Ilyse Kullman is an only child who has entertained herself from an early age through drawing and reading. She continues to practice these activities daily as an illustrator who uses drawing to engage with a variety of written material. She never got a life but she does have a website (http://ilysekullman.com) and a blog (http://metaphoricalassociation.blogspot.com).
Thoughts on the Telephone process
As an illustrator I’m often tasked with translating others’ work, but playing Telephone proved to be a unique challenge. Translating words into images is not the same as working off of visual information alone, as I did for Telephone. Being forced to think visually from the start was a challenging but salutary reminder that images contain information that cannot be verbalized. Thinking along these lines allowed me to explore territory that I have sometimes left neglected in my illustration work and helped me achieve the kind of immediate impact that I’m always striving for.
