I’ve written a poem about
A Photo of a Woman’s Nude Torso with Mountains
after I’ve watched a documentary about
murdered women hacked up
and buried beneath a patio in England
by a married couple of serial killers.I am a woman
viewing a woman.
At least,
half of her,
minus the important bits:The sun sets.
Perhaps it rises.
Shadows cling
to where her thighs rest.In the background,
mountains loom.
They’ve been strip-mined
and so has she.She can’t speak
she can’t run away -
A torso chopped
by the shutter’s blade.Just a photo
but for what it’s worth -
a bound and gagged,
mother earth.I hate the phrase -
what does it mean anyway?women
are victim, orifice,
is earth the same
to a misogynist?

Thoughts on the Telephone process
This was a thought-provoking process. I found I had much to say about the photo I worked from. I had a visceral response to it.
